Like the gas lanterns softly illuminating downtown Charleston’s abundant ambiance, Two Meeting Street Inn radiates with gracious historic grandeur.
Romantic Roots
Initially built in 1892 by Waring P. Carrington and Martha Williams Carrington, the Inn is anchored in its legendary romantic roots. A purported wedding gift from her father, Martha found a $75,000 check on her pillow, which she used to build the home of her dreams.
On their 5th anniversary, the couple gifted each other two front-facing Tiffany windows to further symbolize their love. The property remained in the Carrington family until 1946, when it was transformed into a bed and breakfast and popular destination for honeymoons and romantic getaways. The Inn was managed for 76 years by the Spell family until it was purchased in 2022 by South Street Partners.
Talented Tribute
With a unified vision to preserve and revitalize the Inn and its surrounding property, South Street Partners found the perfect combination of architectural, building, design, and landscape expertise. The challenge of enhancing and honoring the Inn’s 6,000 square feet of historical significance culminated in a collaboration of exemplary experience and passionate performance.
Orchestrating the project with award-winning redesign and restoration experience, Eddie Fava and e. e. fava architects translated their worldwide architectural fluency to seamlessly merge historic character with modern comfort. The end result is a wonderland of architectural achievement. From the Inn’s majestic main-floor dining room and piazza, ascend the grand refurbished staircase to sink into a new second-level sitting room and balcony overlooking The Battery’s historic White Point Garden and Charleston Harbor.
Bathed in natural light, eight elegant ensuite guest quarters complete this tantalizing tribute to luxury. With a solid foundation of restorative preservation prowess, General Contractor
Tupper Builders added comprehensive construction excellence. Fueled by a national reputation for design detail, Tammy Connor Interior Design followed through with impeccable flair. Two Meeting Street Inn’s visual variety ultimately takes you on a timeless journey of interior intrigue. Keeping the original Tiffany windows, the Inn methodically moves into the present with a noteworthy nod to the past. Preserving and promoting the property’s exterior setting further frames a mesmeric Member destination. Paving the way for guests to enjoy lush layers of outdoor allure, Lowcountry landscape architect Elizabeth Pope meticulously maneuvered around historic plants and live oaks to create an organic oasis. With her glorious green thumb, climbing roses peek through classic wrought iron fencing and historic boxwoods join a sleek, sophisticated design.
