How Kiawah Island is Keeping Visitors Safe

Events from the past year have put many of our lives at a standstill. This is especially true in terms of travel. Flights have been cancelled, travel plans have been pushed back, family and friends have gone months without seeing each other. Maybe it was manageable at first, but now you are likely itching to start exploring again.

So, where should you go first? We have one suggestion.

Kiawah is an Island teeming with adventurous spirit. From the rustling of the windswept marsh to the panoramic views of the Atlantic, there are many ecosystems to explore. But the Island’s natural beauty isn’t all that is begging to be experienced. The high-end amenities offered here are one of the biggest draws for visitors and potential homebuyers. Access to some of the finest outdoor recreation and dining is yet another reason why many choose to visit Kiawah.

Community Efforts to Ensure Your Safety 

The Kiawah Island Club

To protect Members, the Kiawah Island Club is asking that everyone wear protective masks in all shared spaces. You will notice that hand sanitizer stations have been added to all common areas and social distancing standards are being enforced. To minimize your exposure risk, Club events have — and will continue — to be limited until further notice.

For the safety of Club staff, mandatory temperature checks are being performed upon arrival to work. Social distancing and masks are required to be worn at all times, as is regular hand washing and use of sanitizing stations. If an employee does test positive, the facility will promptly close and Members will be immediately notified. 

Dining and Beverage Establishments

All high-touch areas are sanitized as frequently as possible to provide a safer environment. In most establishments, extended outdoor seating has been added to promote social distancing, along with tables and bar stools being further spaced apart. Patrons must also wear masks at all times, except for when seated for dining.

Golf Courses

Each golf course is also focused on promoting guest and staff safety. Currently, there is limited contact with caddies, along with regular sanitation of all golfing equipment and high traffic areas. The Pro Shops now have one-way traffic flow and all doors are kept open to increase air exchange. Members are discouraged from eating or drinking in the Pro Shops and are being asked not to move flag poles on course holes. 

Ways to Safely Enjoy Your Time on Kiawah Island

If you are planning to visit Kiawah soon, there are some simple precautions you can take to stay safe and healthy.

1. Travel with immediate family only

As much as this past year has cut into your social life, try to limit your travel party to members of your household only. Doing so will reduce unnecessary exposure to those who don’t live with you. Overall, avoid traveling with elderly family members and anyone who is health compromised. 

2. Partake in outdoor water activities 

Lucky for you, Kiawah is widely known for its outdoor water recreation — so this tip won’t be hard to follow. Rent a boat and hit the open sea, or spend the day sunning on the beach. Bring along a decadent picnic from The Market and a bottle of bubbly to celebrate all the good we hope to have in the upcoming year. Kayaking, paddleboarding, and laying poolside are commendable options, too. It’s your vacation, do whatever feels right. 

3. Golf at a top course

Golfing is excellent year-round here, and a great way to stay outdoors and socially distant. Each of Kiawah’s seven courses provide a unique challenge. In addition to The Ocean Course, Turtle Point, Osprey Point, Cougar Point, and Oak Point, Members also have access to the highly-rated River Course and Cassique Course.  

4. Virtually tour homes

Potential homeowners are still able to view homes in person at this time. However, if you would prefer to practice social distancing, homes can also be toured virtually. 

We are now offering virtual home tours and showings, among several safety protocols that have been put into place. Above all, our goal is to help you find your dream home, and a personal getaway that can be used in times like these.

Kiawah Island Real Estate Safety Protocols

For in-person showings, we encourage you to drive your own car to and from each property — rather than riding with your agent. Likewise, your agent will wear a mask at all times to protect you from exposure.

Behind the scenes, each of our sales offices are taking the necessary safety precautions to keep our staff protected. We are conducting regular temperature checks, mandating mask usage, and providing personal and equipment sanitization.
