When Kay Halsey first drove onto Kiawah Island, she was enchanted.

A native of Florida, she had reserved a Kiawah cottage for a February vacation with her husband and friends. “Even the approach to the Island was magical—the lush trees arching over the road with the dappled sunlight filtering through,” she remembers. The cottage was right on the water, and she watched dolphins feeding just yards away. “The crabbing and fishing was wonderful, too. It was simply perfect. I never wanted to leave.”

She was so struck by the experience, she sought a role with Kiawah Island Real Estate. She succeeded, and she and her husband raised their children on the Island, teaching them how to ride bikes on Kiawah’s 30 miles of bicycle paths and taking them to the Straw Market. “It was so safe, you never had to worry,” she says.

Today, with more than three decades of real estate experience and a host of awards under her belt, Kay is absolutely dedicated to putting her clients’ needs first. “I meet some wonderful, interesting people in my work,” she says. “They’re well-traveled and have some great stories to tell. It’s so rewarding to help folks find their ideal home on the Island.”

Kay is deeply rooted in the Kiawah and Lowcountry community. She has served as the sponsorship chair for the Barrier Islands Free Medical Clinic Celebrity Golf Tournament and Silent Auction, raising significant funds during her many years in the role, and is the past president of the Kiawah Ladies Nine Holers Association. She has also served as a mentor at a number of local elementary and high schools, and is currently active with the Charleston chapter of Dining for Women, a global giving circle dedicated to transforming lives and eradicating poverty among women and girls in the developing world.

When not working, Kay enjoys golfing, boating, reading, and travel—one of her favorite memories is a mother- daughter trip to Paris. She always keeps a book on her nightstand, and especially enjoys supporting local authors.
